Pancham and the year of romance films

1981 was the year of romance films. In the same year, two friends, veteran actors Sunil Dutt and Rajendra Kumar introduced their sons Sanjay and Gaurav to the Hindi screen through Rocky and Love Story. Both these films became romantic musical hits. Pancham i.e. RD's music became important for both the films Hukmi Ekka. On the other hand, the tragedy of Ek Duje Ke Liye changed the dimensions of romance films. Manoj Kumar's successful Kranti, the last patriotic film, was released this year. Action and emotion films like Yarana, Lavaris, Naseeb, which sealed Amitabh's status as a superstar, were released this year.

R. who is giving songs that will be remembered for decades to come this year. D. This year was very important for Burman i.e. Pancham. 1981 saw two important multi-starrers. In which Manoj Kumar's Kranti and Manmohan Desai's Naseeb were two important films. The theme of the revolution was patriotism in Bharat Kumarpat. Before the release of Kranti, it was advertised that this movie will surpass Sippy Film's show. Manoj Kumar made a revolution by having a big star cast like acting king Dilip Kumar, Manoj Kumar himself, Shashi Kapoor, Hema Malini, Shatrughan Sinha, Parveen Babi, Om Puri, Prem Chopra and other villains. Kranti was the most expensive film in Manoj's Deshprem film. The type of poster of the picture on the theater ticket started again due to the revolution. Kranti was his culmination after making successful patriotic films like Purab Aur Paschim, Upakar.

Manoj Kumar's son Kunal Goswami entered the screen as a child actor right from Kranti. The songs Zindagi Ki Toote Ladi, Mera Chana Hai Apni Marji Ka were huge hits. But after the revolution, Manoj Kumar made misguided films like Kalyug and Ramayana, Clerk. In the 80s, most of the movies were influenced by Manmohan Desai's plot. Amitabh, Shatrughan Sinha, Rishi Kapoor, Pran etc. were on one side. Kadar Khan, Amjad Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Amrish Puri, Prem Chopra were among the villain friends. Like Manmohan Desai's Amar Akbar Anthony, here too, the plot was about a lost brother, a desperate father thrown into crime by circumstances. Here too Pranasaheb had done this job well in the person of Namdev.

Manmohan Desai had the ability to touch the religious sentiments of the audience. Desai also used the formula of Hindu, Muslim and Christian heroes in Amar Akbar Anthony in Naseeb. Manmohan Desai's answer to a question asked by a director friend at an international film festival about how the blood donated by the protagonists defies the laws of gravity in a bottle stuck on top while being donated by all three sons of Amar Akbar Anthony's Matoshree Nirupa Roy, was both hilarious and true. He said, the audience in our country is emotional. He considers the country as Mother India, the mother who donates blood in the film is a symbol of the same Mother India and her sons Amar Akbar Anthony are patriotic citizens of this country. Emotion is important here. So the issue is not about gravity in blood donation. Manmohan Desai's answer satisfied the boy and so it happened. The audience watched this event on the screen with great emotion and forgave Galileo who proposed the law of gravity. Desai also used the same formula of religious sentiment in Nasib. The rings of God Pratiks in Pranasaheb's fingers were successfully used this time. Naseeb was a film with spicy commercial values. Songs, cinematography, dialogues, fights, emotions, drama were all there in the movie. But Amar Akbar Anthony did not have the same professional luck and fortune.

In the same year Jeetendra, Hema Malini Parveen Babi's Meri Awaaz Suno hit the screens. Kadar Khan had powerful dialogues while Rajendra Singh Babu directed. Mary Awaaz Suno was the heartbreak of a desperate policeman's family against the system like Manoj Vajpayee's shul, Chiranjeevi's ban. This film was appreciated by the critics and the audience. Prakash Mehar's ambitious film Lavaris was also released this year. Mehra had earlier seen the success of Mukaddar Ka Sikandar with Amitabh. Lavaris had the legendary group of Amitabh, Amjad Khan, Zeenat Aman, Bindu, Rakhi, Suresh Oberoi, Ranjith. Prakash Mehra made Lawaris like Manmohan Desaipat. The dialogues of Kadar Khan, the king of dialogue writing on the Hindi screen, are in Lawaris. At that time Lavaris had done a business of 9 crores. 1981 was truly Amitabh's year. Tinu Anand's Kaliya was also released in the same year. Tinu and Amitabh's friendship was even older than chains. On one occasion, Tinu composed Shayariwaja dialogues for Amitabh. Tinu expected applause at this place. But when Amit said the dialogue skipping this shayari, Tinu got extremely upset and left the set. While Amitabh didn't want Shayari in the dialogue, Tinu was the director. After tension arose on the set due to this issue, Amitabh finally backed down and said the dialogues given by Tinu as per the script and indeed this dialogue received applause in the theater as per Tinu's words.

Amitabh, who always stood as a rival to Amjad Khan, became his best friend in Yarana. Together they did many movies like Sholay, Mukaddar Ka Sikandar, Yarana, Naseeb, Mr. Natwarlal. Yaraana was directed by Rakesh Kumar and music by Rajesh Roshan. The relationship between these two was very successful and this friendship was also greatly appreciated at the box office. Father Rajendra Kumar made a love story for his son Kumar Gaurav this year. Music was by RD. Along with this song, the audience also loved the movie. Love Story made Kumar Gaurav an overnight superstar. Like Hrithik Roshan's success with Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, Love Story also gave Kumar Gaurav success. Audiences who are tired of family dramas liked the love story shot in Kashmir, Kullu Manali, Shimla. Pancham's music played a major role in making Love Story a success.

Ek Duje Ke Liye was also released in the same year. This film brought out the old concept of romance films. Ek Duje Ke Lie started this tragedy with the eventual death of the hero like today's Sairat. The film suggested that her and his entire love is successful only because of death. Kamal Haasan, Rati Agnihotri were a new couple in Ek Duje Ke Liye. The film had such an impact on the audience at that time that social scientists of the time feared an increase in the suicide rate of romantic couples. The songs were also extremely popular. K. Ek Duje Ke Liye, directed by Balchandra, was influenced by South's flamboyant performance. But no other love story on the Hindi screen has achieved such emotional success as Ek Duje Ke Liye. Sunil Dutt made Rocky on the advice of his friend Rajendra Kumar for his son who had come out of drug addiction. It was Pancham's music for most of the romance films of the year. Sanjay Dutt's on-screen career started with Rocky. Rajendra Kumar's advice proved right and Rocky too became a huge success at the box office. Both Rajendra Kumar and Sunil Dutt brought their two children to the screen in 1981. The friendship between Sanjay and Gaurav later appeared together in Mahesh Bhatt's Naam which also came out through Sanjay Gupta's thorn. Overall, the year 1981 was very important for both of them along with Amitabh.
